Part of a set of two events (Paris, Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian, 21-22 November 2017, and Zürich, gta Institut für Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur, 1 December 2017), this conference brought together scholars and practitioners to discuss the nature of the architecture book. Historians, editors and designers presented and pondered issues concerning publishing, writing, designing, selling and reading books on buildings from the Renaissance to today. From The Printed and the Built, Mari Lending presented her work on plaster casts and Anne Hultzsch talked about the editorial work of Jane and John Loudon in the 1820s and 1830s.
Both events were organised by André Tavares on the occasion of the publication of his book The Anatomy of the Architectural Book which he had presented to the P&B team in 2016. For the full program of the conference, please see here.
